ABOUT

My name is Mayra, I am a licensed esthetician, makeup artist, and certified permanent makeup artist based in Denver, CO.

I received my Esthiology certification through Aveda Institute Denver in 2022. I completed my Permanent Makeup Fundamentals and Permanent Makeup Glycolic and Saline Removal certification through Accent Beauty Academy in 2023. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado and have transitioned into the beauty field after a decade of working as a Mental Health Therapist.

I began “playing” with makeup in college because before then I was really clueless as to what products were and how to properly apply them. My college years were during the Beauty YouTube era, so I watched a lot of videos and taught myself how to do my makeup. It was the “smaller” youtubers and the indie makeup brands that I connected with the most. I became obsessed with learning about the best quality brushes and the best product formulas. Despite entering the counseling field, I had always had this thought in the back of my mind that if I “failed” at being a therapist I could always become a makeup artist. Counseling was my way of fueling that passion for connecting with others and walking beside my clients as they healed their emotional pain. But makeup was really this creative outlet where I could play with color and apply skills to make it all “look nice”. It was not until I started at Aveda that I really discovered an interest in other services like facials, hair removal, and permanent makeup. I wanted to pursue this career through the lens of self-care, creativity, and honoring the beauty within us. I have always refused the idea that feeling beautiful is dependent on makeup, but rather this being something that amplifies it when its simply something we want to do. Never something we need.

Mission

At Quetzalli Beauty Studio, I utilize a person-centered approach to build relationships with each client who walks through my door. I take the time to get to know each of my clients, so together we can create something that leaves them feeling beautiful and confident in their own skin. With my background in trauma-informed care and culturally inclusive lens, I foster an environment where all clients can feel safe and validated throughout their service. Always informing clients of any movements through the service and asking for consent before any service or ritual requiring touch. Everyone is welcome here regardless of sex, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, or gender identity/expression.

I believe in empowering clients to feel beautiful in their own skin. As well as including educational consultations and assessments in my services so they can understand their needs, preferences, and services. With a great love for makeup, skincare, and all things self-love, I’ve taken my skills and knowledge to create a welcoming and inclusive space for all to explore their beauty. As someone who believes that skincare and makeup can be a fun and therapeutic addition to our self-care routine, I also offer coaching to help you build a routine of your own. Teaching the basics of makeup and skincare while also exploring opportunities for reflection around our internal philosophies on beauty.

Vision

The word Quetzalli is rooted in mesoamerican languages, symbolizing that which is beautiful, sacred, and precious. The Quetzal bird often admired for its beautiful feathers was also a symbol of freedom in Mayan culture because it was believed to let itself die of hunger, rather than living in captivity.

At Quetzalli Beauty Studio, I honor the beauty within each of my clients. Services will always involve the client’s voice, needs, and experience. Never pushing eurocentric beauty standards as the end goal for any service. I strive to create and maintain a safe and welcoming experience where every human feels validated, empowered, and confident. Celebrating and honoring the cultural and diverse ways in which all humans experience beauty and confidence.
